Education is the foundation of society and has been essential in shaping the world we live in today. It is a profession that has existed for thousands of years, dating back to ancient civilizations such as the Greeks and Egyptians. Education has evolved over time, taking on different formats and techniques to fit the needs of each era.

It started handed down from parent to child, then there were formal classes, and now we’ve even got online universities.

From the traditional teacher-led classroom to the online learning opportunities available today, education continues to be a vital component in shaping the future. Here are some trends in the world of Education.

Students in a more traditional classroom.

1. Personalized Learning: Personalized learning involves tailoring educational content to meet individual students’ needs and interests, including methods of presentation, progression, and learning support. The use of technology and data tools are making this task easier for educators.

2. STEM Education: Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education emphasizes the practical application of knowledge in these subjects. STEM education is crucial to prepare for an ever-increasing tech-driven society.

Note some people add an “A” to call it “STEAM” by adding art, though this objectively defeats the purpose of stem being focused on empirically oriented hard skills like maths and sciences.

3. Project-Based Learning: Project-based learning (PBL) emphasizes students’ skills in teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving while helping to develop their critical thinking and communication skills. PBL involves designing instructional resources across curriculum, where students learn through exploration.

4. Gamification: Gamification is the use of game-design elements and game principles in non-game contexts, like education. Using gamification in learning can increase student engagement and motivation to learn.

5. Emerging Technology: Technology is changing the way we do everything, and education is no exception. From entire virtual classrooms that provide a more immersive setting to personalized learning strategies, the use of education technology has become essential for modern education.

What about school via zoom?

A lot of schools are doing lessons on Zoom and Microsoft Teams now. Thanks to the recent pandemic, Zoom has been an essential tool for many schools and universities to continue providing education to students.

Although it may seem like kids have a hard time paying attention, a few teachers have found creative ways to keep their students engaged during online classes. For example, they may use breakout rooms to encourage group discussions or incorporate interactive activities to make the class more interesting.

However students increasingly report feeling disengaged and disinterested when doing online school, so hopefully better options to improve remote learning will continue to grow.
